Access to the Gallery
Our aim is to maximise access to the exhibition. To aid us in doing this, we created three advisor groups to provide their opinion and insight. The access, youth and education advisor groups met roughly every eight weeks and regularly commented on the design and content of the exhibition. With their assistance, we have been able to ensure that we provide as many tools as possible to help all of our visitors engage with the incredible stories on display.
Within the Lord Ashcroft Gallery, you will find:
- BSL captions and subtitles for all audio
- A free audio descriptive tour available from the Information Desk
- Regular seating areas for those who are less able to stand
- Desks angled at the ideal level for wheelchair users
- Wide spaces to easily use wheelchairs and pushchairs
- Large and easy to read text
- A variety of information, design and objects to appeal to all learning types
- A family activity for younger children
- A dedicated learning area for school groups with a variety of teaching resources
Audio described guide
The Imperial War Museum worked with VocalEyes to produce an audio described guide of the Lord Ashcroft Gallery for blind and partially sighted visitors which is available from the information desk at the front of the Museum.
