Stand By The Men
This film was made around 1917 to encourage the British public to buy National War Savings Certificates. It uses a mixture of cartoon, acted scenes and some genuine footage – such as a scene of refugees fleeing from Belgium in 1914.
War Bonds were issued from July 1915 to help fund the war, which was costing £1 million per day.
