During this engagement on the Signy-Signets road, a number of men sustained serious injuries and nine horses were killed.
The photograph was taken by Major RC Money of 1st Cameronians, and it is a rare example of a photograph showing actual combat, taken at a time when there were no official photographers in the front line.
