Kirsty Wark
BBC presenter and journalist Kirsty Wark’s great uncle, Sergeant James Wark, served with the 47th Battalion of the Machine Gun Corps and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for bravery. He survived the war only to die of Spanish ‘flu on 29 November 1918, just 18 days after the Armistice. Wark is buried in Ascq Communal Cemetery near Lille in France.
